Not sure how to increase the data security and battery life of your phone? Bouncer, a new Android app, might have the solution.
Bouncer helps to limit your shared location permissions on your phone by using an accessibility service that “activates when you grant a permission and gives you the option to remove it.”
The app basically lets you customize permissions for each individual app on your phone and gives each permission the go-ahead only while you’re in the app. Once you exit out of the app, Bouncer will immediately delete the permissions you’ve granted.
This is helpful for a number of reasons. For one thing, cutting down on shadow processes can help prolong your phone’s battery life. For another, reducing permissions can halt ongoing location tracking, which is a major “ick” factor for many smartphone users.
What’s more, the app also offers a handy level of sophistication. So, for instance, if you’re scrolling through a social media app such as Twitter or Instagram and you want to tag your location for just one post, Bouncer gives you that option, instead of allowing the app to use your location at all times.
The app's marketing materials emphasize that personal information can’t be taken with from its software, specifying that “Bouncer doesn't have the internet permission so even if it could get sensitive info (which it can't) it couldn't transmit it anywhere.” So rest assured - here’s one app that will never compromise your data.
Currently in beta as of the time of this writing, Bouncer is available for free download in the Google Play store.
