App of the Week - Robinhood

App of the Week, Robinhood App, Geek Chicago

Finding reliable help when it comes to managing money and investments can be hard to come by, especially for free. That’s why, if you’re looking to start investing without a ton of experience or overhead, the Robinhood app should be high on your list of possible solutions.

Robinhood isn’t your average stock app. On top of buying and selling stocks, you can also use the app to invest in ETFs (exchange-traded funds) and options, and trade cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin and Ethereum. Users can look forward to a cash management component that’s coming down the pipeline.

You won’t have to worry about unwanted data collection from your stock portfolio. Robinhood uses a state-of-the-art security program and encrypts your portfolio information to ensure only you control your investments. The app also protects up to $500,000 of securities and is a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC).

Besides the helpful investment opportunities, Robinhood can be customized for users to receive push notifications on the latest market trends. It also offers searchable collections of stocks to discover, so you’ll never miss a great chance to make a new investment.

There are both desktop and mobile versions available, so that tracking your investments can be done with ease and at your convenience.

While Robinhood’s most basic functions are included in the free app, more advanced traders have the option to upgrade and begin margin trading and carrying out multi-leg option strategies for a small fee of $10 per month.

Intrigued by the features of this investment app? Are you looking for other apps and gadgets that can make your day-to-day life a little easier? Be sure to follow our team on Facebook and Twitter to stay up on the latest, greatest, and geekiest.
