Gadget of the Week - Star Wars Lightsaber Academy

For Star Wars fans young and old, attending the Jedi Academy has always been a major daydream. After all, who could watch The Empire Strikes Back, The Last Jedi, or even the trailer for the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker without picturing themselves picking up a lightsaber and swinging for the fences?

Well, now, a gadget and app duo is here to make those Jedi dreams come true - and this time, you don’t have to make the “whooshing” noise yourself.

The Star Wars Lightsaber Academy set promises to be a fun gadget and app combo, designed to teach your young padawans the all-important “dos” and “don'ts” of being a Jedi Knight.

Each Lightsaber Academy kit includes a physical, extendable lightsaber hilt, which seamlessly connects to a smartphone training app via Bluetooth. This is where the real fun begins! The app acts as your own personal Jedi Knight training course, allowing you to track your progress as you learn offensive and defensive moves, following a training path set by one of the galaxy’s fiercest Sith or noble Jedi, including Yoda, Rey, Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Kylo Ren.

As you test out different swings from the films, your lightsaber will provide you with spoken feedback through the gadget’s handle. You can also use the app and the gaming apparatus to battle friends, play games, and evaluate your scores.

Ready to teach your kids the ways of the Force? The Lightsaber Academy should be a fun introduction to Star Wars gadgets and geekery for younglings, while offering capabilities and highlights far beyond what die-hard collectors have ever seen before, making it a “must-try” for Star Wars fans of all ages.

Ready to start on the path to becoming the Jedi or Sith you’ve always dreamed about? You’ll have to wait a bit. Lightsaber Academy toys are expected to start shipping in Fall 2019. The gadget should be available via Hasbro, with the accompanying app accessible via iOS and Android devices.
